Students:
This program provides opportunities for students to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge that will enable them to become engaged, active, informed and ultimately, responsible citizens. It helps students develop their sense of self, and a sense of belonging in their community, by stepping back into time. The program provides history of the area reflecting our heritage, and recognizing how citizenship and identity are shaped over time.
This program is ``inquiry-based/ interdisciplinary subject”, that draws upon history, fostering students` understanding of who they are, what they want to become, and the society in which they live. It further promotes an understanding of how our environment became what it is today, and how history contributes to a better comprehension of contemporary realities.
Our new educational program also aims to engage students in active inquiry, as well as critical and creative thinking. We hope the students will apply historical skills to bring meaning to their lives, and reflect upon what they have learned throughout the program. Overall, the program provides a foundation of learning experiences that address critical aspects of societies and its applications. The dynamic relationship between citizenship and identity forms the basis for skills and learning outcomes.
Our Educational Program is entirely based on Alberta Learning Specific Outcomes. We offer classes in both, English and French. Furthermore, we have developed a Native Cultural Program, and keep-on adding components to it. We invite teachers and parents to contact us for more information.

At Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village, teachers use the Fishburn School Heritage Building to instruct their students. On the first day, the entire day is covered by the museum staff. On the following days, mornings are supervised by teachers; you use this time to cover YOUR curriculum and lesson plans. The museum staff takes over in the afternoon, after lunch. Our activities follow your morning lessons. For this reason, we like to plan your visit ahead of time; planning is a cooperative effort. We meet with you before your visit to discuss the program, and make decisions together; we can conduct this meeting over the telephone or in person if your are located in our area.
